Finding the old links that still get traffic

Use per-rule analytics and unmatched 404s to find old URLs worth maintaining, then export retained events or query summaries through the API.

A redirect that looks obsolete can still be useful. An old link may live in a customer email, a PDF or a bookmark long after it disappears from your website.

RedirectDuck records requests so you can review which old addresses are still being used and where matching rules send them.

Start with the relevant domain or rule

The Analytics page provides a workspace overview. On Starter and higher plans, you can filter that overview by a verified domain and inspect breakdowns such as referrers, countries and devices.

Open an individual redirect to review its traffic over an available date range. Per-rule breakdowns also start on Starter. The Free plan provides simpler statistics.

These views describe the events retained by RedirectDuck. They cannot reconstruct traffic from before the domain was connected or from records that have already expired.

Review unmatched 404s

The 404s worth a rule list shows frequently requested paths that did not match a redirect rule. It is useful after a move because visitors may still be following URLs you missed.

An owner or editor can choose Add rule to open the rule form with that source prefilled. Choose a relevant destination, save the rule, then test the old address. Viewing the list is not itself a change to your configuration.

Do not redirect every unfamiliar path automatically. First decide whether it represents a real page, a typo or a request that should remain unmatched.

Export the data you need

On Pro and Agency, the dashboard's CSV export contains retained request events for the current workspace. It includes fields such as the requested host and path, resolved destination, status and referrer. The export is not a copy of whichever filtered chart is currently open.

The API offers JSON analytics summaries through GET /v1/analytics. It supports a time window and optional domain or redirect filters, requires an appropriately scoped token, and respects plan limits.

Understand the retention window

Analytics history is limited by the workspace's plan: seven days on Free, 30 on Starter, 90 on Pro and 365 on Agency. A quiet week is different from a quiet year, so include the observation window when deciding whether to keep a rule.

Redirected visitors do not need a tracking cookie for these analytics. The stored event model does not retain raw visitor IP addresses. For the wider data-handling details, read the privacy policy.
